Exhilarating Performance, On or Off the Track
Ferrari has once again pushed the boundaries to create the most powerful Ferrari V8 engine ever. This special series vehicle has been dubbed the 488 Pista, meaning "race track" in Italian. The name harkens to the race inspired performance derived from tried and true racing technology and engineering of both, the Ferrari 488 Challenge and the 488 GTE. The result is a vehicle that delivers exhilarating performance on, or off the track.
The 488 Pista's get-up-and-go comes thanks to significant upgrades to the base model's 3.9-liter twin turbo V8. In fact, Ferrari says more than 50% of the engine parts for this power plant are new, including upgraded cylinder heads, titanium connecting rods, turbochargers, crankshaft and flywheel. The car also makes use of Inconel alloy exhaust manifolds, all of which adds up to the aforementioned horsepower but also, perhaps more significantly, a monstrous 568 lb-ft of torque. An impressive 0 to 62 mph time of 2.85 seconds. Maybe as importantly, an racer-friendly uptick in decibels from the engine (around 8 db) helps give the Pista a roar commensurate with its all-business looks.

While this recipe sounds like a lot for anyone but a professional racer to handle, Ferrari has made sure that the car's electronic wizardry keeps things in line and Pista on the track. Called Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, this represents the sixth-generation of a technological suite known as Side-Slip Angle Control. The computer in essence balances a host of vehicle inputs through the car's electronic differential, predictive traction control and magnetorheological dampers and - for the first time - also its brakes, wherein micro-adjustments to all four corners work to instill more confidence in the driver.
