Honoring George Lucas

Every year the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art presents the highly anticipated Bay Area Treasure Award Dinner. Bay Area Treasure is an annual lifetime achievement award celebration recognizing a Bay Area artist who continually defines and redefines contemporary art. Proceeds from the event support SFMOMA's innovative education programs and celebrated exhibitions.

In 2013, the Bay Area Treasure Award Dinner took place on Thursday, October 24 at the Four Seasons hotel in San Francisco and honored legendary filmmaker George Lucas. An inventor, filmmaker, and philanthropist, Mr. Lucas is one of the most outstanding and internationally renowned media art pioneers.

Bay Area Treasure celebrations began with a launch party on Friday, September 20 at the Yammer headquarters. More than 125 museum supporters, comprised of SFMOMA Trustees, business leaders, sponsors, and tech executives attended this exclusive party with George Lucas.

On October 24th the Bay Area Treasure Dinner began with a reception for sponsors followed by a seated dinner. During dinner guests enjoyed an illuminating conversation with George Lucas and a video retrospective, as well as the presentation of the 2013 Bay Area Treasure Award. The event was attended by 360 guests and raised more than $250,000 for SFMOMA's exhibition and education programs that strengthen communities throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

SFMOMA deeply appreciates Ferrari of San Francisco's generous sponsorship the Bay Area Treasure Award Dinner 2013.
